. . . I happened upon a path that vanished into a wood on the edge of town.

Shuffling off my mortal coil here, boss

One of my favorite people in Hollywood died over the weekend, and we’re all a bit poorer for the loss of Paul Newman. If you’ve never seen it, I highly recommend you rent The Verdict. It’s his lone best acting Oscar I believe.

100% Awesome

Boo Weekley. Doing the Happy dance, feelin ‘ the flow

The electric company said: Let there be light

and there was light, and it was good.

4 days with only cold showers.

Psyche!

The power trucks rolled in around 8:30 PM last night and began work on the downed cables. By 11 PM, they’d reconnected them and half of my apartment complex has power.

Unfortunately, I live in the dark half. The front half with electricity shares a circuit with the traffic lights on a busy road.

It’s going to be a long dark week I’m afraid.

I don’t like Ike

Hello from the aftermath of Hurricane Ike.

No, I don’t live in Houston. I live in Louisville Kentucky, and Sunday, we got a taste of the much ballyhooed hurricane in our quiet little river town in the heartland.

My sister, who lives in Houston, had her power back on 2 nights ago. She was nice enough to call Sunday night and let me know. She had a good laugh when I told her Louisville might be without power for up to 2 weeks.

Sunday afternoon, right about kickoff time for the first games of the NFL, the wind kicked up a little in Louisville and the surrounding area. And then, for the next two hours, we were buffetted with gusts up to 75 miles per hour, toppling trees and power lines (over 5300 downed lines reported by our local power company). In the aftermath, the city was completely shut down and 275,000 people had no power. Cincinnati had it even worse with over 640,000 without power.

Ironically, our local power company had sent 100 workers to Houston to help with the clean-up of the Hurricane, now they’ve got a big job back at home as well.

We really do depend on electricity for a lot of our every day lives. Interesting how things screech to a halt without it.

Yikes Ike

My sister and her family in Houston are hunkered down. I’m sending her all my prayers.

Of course, the weather there this morning is “beautiful”.

Blast from my past

One of the many reasons I love YouTube.

How about a little Billy Joel on the Mike Douglas show!

Angry Young man is a great tune, but the mix is a little low, so crank it.

Election stuff

It didn’t take long for me to grow weary of the election coverage on all channels.

Palin has energized the Republican ticket and now we get to the meat of the race.

Policy.

Religion has been the focus of candidate positions so far and let me just state a fact:

Candidates that make decisions with a religious/moral compass are a good thing IMO. A candidate that advances a moral/religious agenda  with their actions is not what we need.

None of the candidates have done the latter, so let’s calm down and see how the policy discussions wind down.

I’m not voting for either main party yet.

Sometimes, I like the silly

Watch, it delivers.

Louisville gets a BEATDOWN

Well,  welcome back to mediocrity Louisville football.

I’m not terribly worried after Kentucky slapped us with a 27-2 loss, but when the offense hands over 24 points, well, a beatdown should be expected. The defense isn’t bad, and the offense showed flashes, but a completely replaced receiver corps will take a while to settle in. This was a year that the Governors cup after a few games would have benefited Louisville.

Hunter Cantwell had his worst game ever as a Cardinal, and that includes a bowl start against a NASTY Va Tech team a couple years ago.

I’m not worried, but the high times of BCS dreams are over for now.
